Bowling Green, Ky. - The Western Kentucky University softball team's rematch with Alabama on Saturday night was called in the top of the fifth inning due to rain. The Hilltoppers, who had lost to Alabama 5-4 earlier in the Bama Bash, trailed 6-0 when play was stopped in the top of the fifth inning.
The Crimson Tide got to starting pitcher Natasha Sevco early on. The freshman lasted just a third of an inning, surrendering four runs on three hits and three walks. Junior Allison Silver came on in relief of Sevco and bailed Western out of the jam. Alabama tacked on two more runs in the second inning, both unearned, to go ahead 6-0.
Western was threatening in the fifth after opening the inning with a single from Sevco and a double from Silver. The Hilltoppers will play in either the consolation game or the championship game tomorrow, depending on the outcome of this game, which will be completed tomorrow morning.
