EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Jennifer McGill (Sr., Bowling Green, Ky.) had a 34 on the back nine Monday, finishing with an opening round two-over-par 74 to help the Western Kentucky University women's golf team build a 10-shot lead at the UE Invitational at Eagle Valley Golf Club.
The Lady Toppers posted a 319 as a squad, with Lindenwood recording a 329 and host Evansville a 336. The second, and final, round will be played Tuesday.
McGill - who tied for second in WKU's first event of the season last week - held a two-stroke advantage over UE's Andrea Werner. The round matched her career-low total, first accomplished at the 2000 Great Smokies Intercollegiate.
Four other Lady Toppers also ended the first day tied for 11th or better. Morgan Hannah (Jr., Franklin, Tenn.) shot an 80 and is in sixth, with Sarah Lilly (Jr., Owensboro, Ky.) in ninth after shooting an 82 in her first tournament of the season. Casey Manion (So., Glasgow, Ky.) and Jennifer Taylor (So., Indian Springs, Ohio) both are one shot behind Lilly in a tie for 11th.
And, Leslie Adams (So., Greenville, Ky.) posted a 96.
