BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - Travis Glasford rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown and Russ Michna threw a touchdown pass to lead Western Illinois to a 14-0 win over Western Kentucky on Saturday.
The Leathernecks (2-0, 1-0 Gateway Conference) defeated the Hilltoppers (1-2, 0-1) for the second straight season, while the Hilltoppers were shut out for the first time since 1996 and for the first time at home since 1979.
Glasford capped a 52-yard drive with a 4-yard touchdown run with 3:08 left in the opening quarter. Michna added a 10-yard touchdown pass to Terrence Hall with 12:10 remaining in the first half. Michna finished 14-of-22 for 214 yards without an interception.
The Hilltoppers amassed 325 total yards, but fumbled six times.
Their last scoring threat came when Antonio Veals returned a punt to the Western Illinois 43 with 4:50 left in the game.
But the Hilltoppers faced fourth down two minutes later and Western Illinois linebacker Lee Russell tackled Western Kentucky receiver Brian Lowder short of a first down, and the Leathernecks took over.
