The Lady Toppers (1-1-0) built a 2-0 halftime lead off goals from Jackie Krieger (So., Park City, Utah) and Andrea Doogs (So., Elizabethtown, Ky.). Krieger got Western on the board in 24th minute of the game, scoring off a deflection from a corner kick. Doogs finished the first half scoring four minutes later with a 15-yard bullet into the top right corner of the net. Allison Nellis (So., Louisville, Ky.) assisted on the score.
Birmingham Southern (0-2-0) cut the lead to 2-1 on a goal by Anna D. Mullholland in the 56th minute of the game. However, Western's Erica Baker (So., Lisle, Ill.) countered with her first goal of the season off a corner kick by Katherine Hunt (Fr., Bowling Green, Ky.) to round out the scoring.
Amy Uhlman (So., Louisville, Ky.) recorded seven saves in goal for the Lady Toppers and earned her first victory of the season.
Western returns home to play Austin Peay Friday in Bowling Green. Game time is set for 7 p.m. (CDT).
