Bowling Green, Ky. - Katherine Hunt's (Fr., Bowling Green) breakaway goal in the 89th minute helped the Western Kentucky women's soccer team pull out a 2-2 tie against visiting Tennessee Tech in an exhibition match at the WKU Intramural Sports Complex Friday night.
Kelly Frericks (So., Bowling Green) opened up the scoring for the Lady Toppers with a goal in the seventh minute of the first half. The Lady Eagles countered with a first half goal by Meghan Tragesser in the 37th minute. Neither team was able to score for the next eight minutes entering half-time in a 1-1 tie.
Tragesser's score in the 55th minute of the second half gave the Lady Eagles a 2-1 advantage. Both defenses held strong until Hunt's late-game heroics evened the score at 2-2 ending the game in a tie.
The Lady Topper defense held the Lady Eagles to only 5 shots on goal while attempting 18 shots of their own. Frericks led Western with three shots on goal. Jocelyn Roach (So., Ovilla, Tex.) and Crystal Chapon (So., North Potomac, Md.) each recorded two shots on goal for the Lady Toppers.
Western travels to Martin, Tenn. tommorow to play Tennesee-Martin in their final exhibition tune-up. Match time is set for 2 p.m. (CDT).
