Princeville, Kauai, Hawaii - San Diego's Ryan Hanratty followed up an opening-round 70 and held off Western Kentucky's Eric Mason in the second round to take a one-shot lead Friday at the 2001 Kauai Collegiate Cup at Princeville.
Hanratty carded a 3-under 141 over the first 36 holes of tournament play, while Mason shot identical rounds of 71 for a 2-under 142. Cincinnati's Neil Lykins recorded the low round of the day with a 4-under 68 in the second round to share second place overall after an opening round 74.
Eastern Michigan is the overall leader following the first two rounds of play, placing three players in the top-10 and two in the top-5 en route to a 587. EMU's Brad Pemberton shot a 144, including a second-round 69 and Jaysen Hansen scored a 145 to place fourth and fifth, respectively.
Defending champion San Diego is one shot off the pace with a two-round score of 292, with David Isaacson joining Hanratty in the top-10 at seventh place by shooting an even-par 72 in the second round for a 147.
Tournament host Western Kentucky shot a 298 in the second round to place fifth heading into tomorrow's final round. Chris Cassell is in a tie for 15th place after recording two rounds of 75 and John Mullendore shot a second-round 75 to join three other players in 19th place with a two-round total of 152.
The final round will be played Saturday morning at the Makai Golf Course at the Princeville Resort, with Western Kentucky, Cincinnati and Samford teeing off at 7:32 a.m. (PST). Drake and Dartmouth will tee off at 7:56 a.m from the 10th tee (Lakes No. 1), followed by Eastern Michigan, Marquette and San Diego at 8:12 a.m.
