RUSTON, La. (AP) - Gerrod Henderson's 18 points included a pair of free throws with 6.5 seconds remaining in overtime that lifted Louisiana Tech to a 73-72 victory Saturday night over Western Kentucky.
It was a game between Sun Belt Conference Eastern Division frontrunners. The victory by Tech (16-8 overall, 9-3 Sun Belt) trimmed East-leading Western Kentucky's lead to just one game over the Bulldogs in the division standings. It also left the Hilltoppers at 17-6, 10-2.
Tech held a 37-34 halftime lead, but was outscored 28-25 by Western Kentucky to set up overtime with the score tied at 62-all.
Western Kentucky took an early one-point lead in the extra period and led by three points with 2:53 left. But Tech narrowed the score to 72-71 in the closing minute and Henderson went to the line for his game-winning shots after being fouled by Filip Videnov while shooting from the baseline.
Tech's Marcelle Davis scored five of his 13 points in overtime. Marco Cole added 11 points for the Bulldogs and reserve Zach Johnson had 10.
Chris Marcus led Western with 27 points and Nashon McPherson added 11.
