Bowling Green, Ky. - Eric Mason (Jr., Booneville, Ky.) turned in a three round total of 213 to finish second at the Iowa Hawkeye Intercollegiate.
Mason turned in rounds of 70, 74 and 69 to finish six shots behind Iowa's Jason Wombacher. It is the seventh top-five finish for Mason, and his best showing since winning the Louisville Invitational at the end of the 1999 fall season. John Mullendore (So., Bowling Green, Ky.) finished the 54-hole event tied for 13th with a 223, carding a career-low 72 in the second round. Chris Cassell (Sr., Terre Haute, Ind.) and Adam Cox (So., Hardinsburg, Ky.) both tied for 39th with a 232, while Jared Topmiller (So., Central City, Ky.) tied for 45th with a 233.
Western turned in a team score of 893 to finish the tournament in fourth place. The host Hawkeyes won the event with an 878, while Northern Iowa was second with an 885 and Wright State third with an 888.
Coach Brian Tirpak's Hilltoppers are now 15-7 on the season, and will travel to Champaign, Ill., Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, to compete in the Northern Intercollegiate.
