Bowling Green, Ky. - Coach Chuck Eison's Lady Topper golf team turned in a sixth place finish at the 12-team Lady Racer Classic in Murray, Ky.
Western ended the first day of competition in eighth place with a 341, but came back with a 331 to climb two spots and finish with a 672. Eastern Kentucky won the tournament with a 621, two shots better than Arkansas State. The host Lady Racers finished fourth with a 647.
WKU was led by Marilyn Bungo (So., Howland, Ohio) for the second straight tournament. Bungo fired an 81 in the final round to finish with a 166, tied for 23rd. Morgan Hannah (Fr., Franklin, Tenn.) also carded an 81 in the final round, the best score of her young career, to finish 28th. Crystal Anglea (So., Greenwood, Ind.) and Jocelyn Cross (Sr., Radcliff, Ky.) both finished with a 170 to tie for 35th, and Jenny Rightmyer (Jr., Owensboro, Ky.) rounded out the WKU scoring with a 178 to tie for 50th. Arkansas State's Amanda Beeler won the tournament with a 149.
Western returns to the links Oct. 13-14 when they travel to Richmond, Ky. to compete in the Eastern Kentucky Fall Invitational.
