Bowling Green, Ky. - Western Kentucky's men's golf team turned in a strong performance against a competitive 20-team field to finish tied for seventh at the Xavier Invitational.
The Hilltoppers fired a 54-hole score of 891, tying instate rival Louisville. Wisconsin won the tournament with an 875. Defending tournament champion Michigan finished third with an 880.
Jared Topmiller (So., Central City, Ky.) led the Hilltoppers finishing tied for 11th with a 219, one shot out of the top-10. Eric Mason (Jr., Booneville, Ky.) finished two shots behind Topmiller with a 221, tying for 21st. Team captain Chris Cassell (Sr., Terre Haute, Ind.) carded three rounds of 75 to finish with a 225, tied for 38th and Adam Cox (So., Hardinsburg, Ky.) fired a 226 to tie for 41st. Indiana's Steve Wheatcroft won the individual championship with a 209.
Western is now 29-28-1 on the fall season, which will conclude next Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 16-17) at the Legends of Indiana Intercollegiate in Franklin, Ind.
