Rob Peterson, a collegiate athletic administrator with over 20 years of experience at five different institutions of higher education, and as an athletics consultant with CarrSports, serves as WKU's Deputy Athletic Director (Chief Operating Officer/Chief Financial Officer) after serving WKU Athletics since October 2023 as Senior Associate Athletic Director and CFO. Peterson will also serve as the sport program administrator for men’s basketball.
Previously, Peterson served as the Deputy Athletic Director for Internal Operations/CFO at Central Michigan from 2018-22. Prior to CMU, he also had stops at UMass (Associate Athletic Director for Finance and Administration/CFO, 2015-16, 2023), South Dakota State (Senior Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations, 2000-14), Fresno State (Coordinator of Events, Facilities and Projects, 1997-2000) and Northern Michigan (Assistant Director of Recreation – Facilities, 1995-97).
Throughout his career, Peterson has gained experience in all areas of athletic operations, including business, capital projects, compliance, equipment, facilities/events, human resources, marketing, revenue generation, sports medicine, sport performance and sport supervision.
Nationally, Peterson has served as a member of the National Collegiate Equestrian Association Championship committee and the Selection committee. He has also served as the NCAA Division II Regional Chair for Baseball (2004). He is a member of the Collegiate Athletic Business Managers Association (CABMA), Collegiate Event and Facility Management Association (CEFMA), and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).
Peterson is a 1992 graduate of Northern Michigan University with a degree in physical education. He graduated with his master's in sports administration from Central Michigan in 1995. He and his wife, Paula McCormick, currently reside in Bowling Green, Ky.
