2019 (Redshirt Junior): Started 35 games as a designated hitter … Recorded a .264/.329/.357 slash line … Tied for fifth on the team with 31 RBI while adding 37 hits, 20 runs, eight walks and seven doubles … Recorded 10 multi-hit, eight multi-RBI and five multi-run games … Posted a season-high three hits while adding two doubles and two runs against Memphis (3/7) … Produced one home run and a season-high four RBI against Charlotte (3/29) … Went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one home run against Memphis (3/8).
2018 (Junior): Started the first 11 games for WKU in right field before injuries that forced Nelson to miss all but 2 contests the remainder of the season ... During the week of Feb. 19-25, slashed .500/.636/.857 in five games to become the first Hilltopper Conference USA Hitter of the Week since Steven Kraft on April 29, 2016 ... That week, he led the Hilltoppers to their first four-game win streak since April 2016 and the team's first doubleheader sweep since April 2015, a span of 11 doubleheaders ... In a 1-0 WKU victory over Northern Illinois on Feb. 23, Nelson broke up a no-hitter with a double in the sixth inning, then blasted a solo homerun on a 3-2 pitch with two out in the bottom of the eighth for the lone run of the ballgame.
At Indian Hills CC: During his 2 seasons with the Falcons, Nelson played 108 total games and slashed .355/.433/.540 ... He amassed 138 hits, 99 runs and 90 runs batted in ... Of his 138 hits, 42 went for extra bases (25 doubles, 4 triples and 13 homeruns), which contributed to his 210 total bases ... He added 20 stolen bases - while only being caught 5 times - with 47 walks and 10 times hit by pitch, compared to 44 strikeouts ... In 2017, he earned First Team All-District honors with a .367/.433/.619 slash line, leading Indian Hills to a 41-20 record and a Region 11 title, as the offense produced 7.4 runs per game ... Had a career day at Eastern Oklahoma SC with 4 hits - 2 doubles and 2 homeruns - with 3 RBI on March 5, 2017 ... Named to the All-Region 11 and All-Academic First Teams in both seasons ... Played in the same outfield as WKU teammate Jacob Rhinesmith for 2 years.
At Millard North HS: Lettered 3 years in basketball and 2 years on the diamond ... Earned Omaha World-Herald Honorable Mention honors 3 times for basketball and 2 times for baseball ... Team finished fifth in the Nebraska State Tournament in back-to-back seasons.
