WKU President's List (Fall 2016, Spring 2017)
2017 (Junior): Weins provided the role of a situational reliever out of the WKU bullpen and led the team with a 3.00 earned run average in nine innings across 14 appearances ... Earned the win in an 8-5 victory at Murray State on April 18, coming in the game in the 6th frame to provide a scoreless inning of relief ... Overall, did not allow a run in 12-of-14 appearances on the season ... Threw 3 innings of scoreless ball in a pair of appearances vs. Valparaiso during opening weekend.
2016 (Sophomore): Weins appeared in 14 games, making 3 starts for the Hilltoppers ... He picked up 2 victories on the year, both on the road against SEC opponents ... At Tennessee on March 8, he came on in relief and pitched 5 shutout innings, striking out 2 as WKU won in Knoxville for the first time in program history by a score of 6-0 ... A week later against Kentucky in Lexington, Weins allowed 1 earned run in 2.2 innings as the Hilltoppers cruised to a 14-6 victory.
2015 (Freshman): Weins made eight staff day starts and appeared 11 times overall during his rookie campaign ... Weins’ effective emergence was a pleasant surprise for the Hilltoppers as the soft-tossing lefty led WKU to a 6-2 record in his eight starts ... He was 3-1 as the pitcher of record in those contests, which included wins over Lipscomb, Murray State and FIU ... Weins threw four shutout innings in his win against Lipscomb, three shutout innings against Murray State and held C-USA Tournament Champion FIU to one run during three innings of work in Miami ... He made his first-career appearance at Belmont and held the hot-hitting Bruins to two runs over four innings of effective work ... Weins earned his first-career start a few weeks later at No. 13 Mississippi State and WKU won that contest behind him ... He finished the season with a 5.08 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 28.1 innings pitched.
At Frankton HS: Weins was 5-2 with a 2.47 ERA as a senior at Frankton, striking out 66 batters in 45.1 innings in route to being named the Herald Bulletin Pitcher of the Year ... He was a two-time All-Central Indiana Conference and All-County selection after recording fanning 124 batters during his final two prep seasons ... As a junior, Weins punched out 58 batters compared to 14 free passes in eight starts, leading Frankton with a 1.31 ERA after surrendering just seven earned runs in 37.1 innings.
