2017 (Senior):Â As one of the most improved players in Conference USA, Wood led WKU with a .313/.386/.523 slash line ... Started 50-of-55 games behind the plate, catching 89 percent (432-of-485) of the team's total defensive innings ... Ranked second on the Hilltoppers with 61 hits, 19 walks, 36 runs batted in and 102 total bases, while swiping seven bags ... Became only the third switch-hitter in the country to homer from each side of the plate in the same game May 6 at Marshall, going 3-for-4 with four runs batted in and a career-high nine total bases ... Started off Conference USA play by going 3-for-5 with three extra-base hits - two doubles and a solo homerun - vs. UAB on March 18; the dinger was the first of back-to-back long balls with Thomas Peter in the fifth inning ... Had a special day Feb. 25 vs. Jacksonville State, going 2-for-3 with a team season-high six runs batted in and the first multi-homerun game of his career; hit a two-run dinger in the third and capped his afternoon with a grand slam in the seventh, the first in the program since Anderson Miller at FIU on April 17, 2015 ... Taking out a 5-game hitless stretch in midseason, Wood slashed .345/.421/.576 in his other 46 starts ... Hit a team-best .346 (46-for-133) against right-handed pitching, but still held his own with a .242 mark against lefties ... Led the Hilltoppers by hitting .348 (32-for-92) with runners on base, which included a .314 mark with runners in scoring position ... Was second on WKU with nine multi-RBI and eight multi-run games, while ranking third with 17 multi-hit performances ... Defensively, threw out 21-of-59 potential bases stealers; ranked in the top 10 in the nation with 21 runners caught stealing, while his overall rate of 36 percent was second in Conference USA.
2016 (Junior): Wood appeared in 39 games for the Hilltoppers, starting 21 behind the plate out of 54 total ... Went 23-for-85 on the season, with 3 multi-hit efforts and a pair of multi-RBI performances ... Posted a .271/.333/.400 slash line, the best in all 3 categories among the team’s backstops ... Had 2 of his 3 homeruns in the April 29-30 series vs. FIU, including a solo jack in the 11th inning that started a 2-run rally by WKU.
2015 (Sophomore): Wood was WKU’s primary designated hitter and No. 3 catcher as a sophomore, appearing in 41 games overall and starting 29 of them ... The switch-hitting Wood cracked eight doubles, homered, drove in 10 RBI and scored 14 runs as a .211 batter for the Hilltoppers ... He roped two-run doubles against Southern Illinois and FIU ... Wood had four multiple-hit contests in 2015, including a 2-for-4 effort in his start at catcher during WKU’s win at No. 13 Mississippi State ... He hit his lone homer of the season in the first win of WKU’s doubleheader sweep at LA Tech and provided insurance with a 10th-inning RBI double in the series-clinching win later that day.
2014 (Freshman): Wood was WKU’s go-to pinch hitter and backup designated hitter as a rookie, making starts in 14 of his 33 games played in 2014 ... He made the most of his limited at-bats, racking up 14 hits and 15 RBI while drawing nine walks in just 57 at-bats on the season ... Six of his 14 hits went for extra-bases has he posted four doubles and jacked a pair of home runs. He capped 2014 with a .421 slugging percentage and .348 on-base percentage ... Wood went 2-of-3 and scored a run in his first career start against UNC Asheville on Feb. 22 ... In his first road start of the year at No. 4 Vanderbilt, Wood got the scoring started in WKU’s 3-2 win with an RBI double, finishing the game 2-of-3 with an RBI ... Wood delivered in key situations late in the conference season; with WKU leading South Alabama 3-2 in the eighth inning on April 19, he smacked a grand slam to cushion WKU’s lead in the series tying win for his first-career home run ... With WKU trailing UT Arlington 3-0 in the seventh inning of the series finale, Wood jacked a three-run bomb to tie the game up with the Mavs ... The switch-hitting catcher finished the season as one of WKU’s best hitters in two-out situations, batting .385 with five RBI with two outs on the board.
At Bullitt East HS:Â Wood was a First-Team All-State selection at catcher for Bullit East High School, tallying 46 hits with a batting average of .446 in 2013 ... He also drove in 38 RBI, rapped out 17 doubles, three triples and a pair of home runs during his senior season ... Wood blasted six home runs as a junior and finished his four-year prep career with 13 triples.
