As a team, WKU managed to set 10 new personal bests on Friday morning. Three managed to set a new PR in the men's 8000-meter race. Seven Hilltoppers in the women's race set a personal best on the 5000-meter course.
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
In the men's 8k Ryan Hendrix led the charge on Friday morning, taking 89th. Mikie Carnell finished behind, in 106th. Three Hilltoppers followed behind in Hollis Johnson, Jake Younger, and Trevor Hudnall. All three set new personal bests in the 8000-meter race.
The men ended up finishing up in 21st place, two spots better than a season ago at the Southern Showcase.Â
Kinley Kunkel found herself in the front of the pack for WKU in the women's 5k. She finished up in 45th. Freshman Brooke Greenwell followed behind in 69th place. Two more Hilltoppers finished in the top-150 in Addie Frisch and Caterina Rossomanno.
As a team, the women claimed a 18th place finish which is five spots above where they finished last year in the meet. A total of four finished in the top-150, last season only two did.Â
NOTABLESÂ
- Kinley Kunkel led the way for WKU in the meet, claiming a 45th place finish. Last season at the same meet Kunkel took 133rd, an improvement of 88Â spots from last year.
- Kunkel's mark of 17:36 is a PR for the junior from Bedford, Ky.
- Brooke Greenwell also set a PR in the women's 5k, finishing in 17:52.
- Caterina Rossomanno, Addie Frisch, Maggie May, and Sofia Witt all also set personal bests at the race Friday morning.
- Ryan Hendrix led the way for the Tops in the men's 8k with a mark of 25:03. This marked the first 8k race for the freshman.
- Hollis Johnson set a new personal best in the 8k with a time of 25:16, finishing in 119th.
- Jake Younger also set a PR on Friday morning, checking in at 25:21.
- Trevor Hudnall was the third Hilltopper in the men's race to set a PR with a time of 25:45.
- Five Hilltoppers on the men's team raced on their first collegiate 8000-meter course.

On the performance, head coach Lee Wood said "The teams looked really good this morning! I feel like they are getting stronger each week. I really like where we are for this time of year!"
