BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Soccer sophomore defender Abby Wiedermann has been named the Conference USA Defender of the Week for her play in the Hilltoppers' home opener against Jackson State last week.
It is the second time Wiedermann has earned a weekly honor in her career at WKU. She was previously named CUSA Defensive Player of the Week in October of 2024.
On the honor head coach Jason Neidell said "It's exciting to see Abby get this honor. She has worked really hard to grow her game and has matured and become one of the vocal leaders for this team. She is a great 1v1 defender who relishes in the physical part of the game."
"I am extremely proud of her, and to get this early season conference honor is a validation for her and the entire team's hard work and commitment," Neidell added.
Wiedermann scored the game winning goal in the Hilltoppers' 1-0 win over Jackson State last Thursday. Wiedermann played a crucial role in the second straight shutout for WKU, playing the full 90 minutes, and helping hold the Tigers to four total shots.
WKU will be back in action on Thursday, Aug. 28 hosting Dayton (1-1-1) and on Sunday, Aug. 31 vs. Union (TN). All matches at the WKU Soccer Complex are free to attend.
