DALLAS – WKU Track and Field's Kaison Barton has been named the Conference USA Male Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. The graduate senior was given the honor following stellar competition at the Brent Chumbley Memorial Hilltopper Relays last weekend.
Barton was named Male Field Athlete of the week following his performance in the hammer throw, shot put, and discus throw. In the hammer throw, Barton set a new school record with a 209' 7" throw, breaking the previous record set back in 2015. His mark stands at No. 1 in Conference USA, No. 12 in the NCAA East Qualifying Region, and No. 28 in all of NCAA DI Track and Field.
In addition to his finish in the hammer throw, Barton earned a second place finish in the men's shot put with a mark of 52' 8.75". To round out the weekend Barton also competed in the men's discus with a throw of 132' 11".
On the honor, interim head coach Lee Wood said "Super proud of Kaison and the way he performed at the home meet! He's been working extremely hard and this is well deserved!"
Barton and the Hilltoppers will be back in action next Friday and Saturday at the Tennessee Invite and the Joe Walker Invitational.
