BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Three student-athletes from WKU women's basketball have earned All-Conference USA honors, the league announced on Monday. Alexis Mead was named to the All-CUSA First Team while Josie Gilvin and Destiny Salary were named to the All-CUSA Second Team. Mead and Gilvin were also named to the CUSA All-Defensive Team.
Mead has the best assist/turnover ratio in CUSA this season with a 1.69 mark and she's WKU's leading scorer, averaging 13.3 points per game. She's third in the league in assists per game, averaging 4.0, second in free throw percentage, shooting 86.7 percent from the charity stripe, and sixth in steals per game, averaging 2.2. The 5-foot-4 guard is averaging 5.3 rebounds per game in conference play.
The Moreno Valley, California native is leaving quite the legacy at WKU. She is currently fourth all-time at WKU in career steals (238), fifth in career starts (123), sixth in career assists (461), 10th in made 3-point field goals (160) and 25th in all-time scoring (1,345).
Gilvin has emerged as one of the best players in CUSA in her junior year. She's WKU's second leading scorer, putting up 13.0 points per game, and she's the squad's leading rebounder, pulling down 5.9 boards per game. The Louisville, Kentucky native is second in CUSA in steals per game, averaging 2.6. In just CUSA play, Gilvin is averaging 14.3 points per game (7th in the league), 6.7 rebounds per game (tied for 8th in the league), 2.9 steals per game (1st in the league), 2.6 assists per game (9th in the league), and 1.06 blocks per game (5th in the league).
She has also is shooting 55.6 percent from the field in conference play which is the third best mark in the league. For the season, Gilvin is shooting 54.1 percent from the field, 42.2 percent from three and 80.9 percent from the free throw line.
Salary has been the leading scorer for WKU in nine games this season, scoring in double figures 19 times and notching four 20-point performances. She's the third leading scorer for WKU, averaging 12.6 points per game and has the second most assists on the team, dishing out 80 on the season.
During CUSA play, Salary is putting up 13.1 points per game which is the ninth most in the league. She's shooting 43.5 percent from the field during conference play which is the eighth best percentage among CUSA players. She's also dishing out 2.8 assists per game (9t in the league).
WKU was the only team to land two players on the All-Defensive Team and tied Middle Tennessee and Liberty with the most All-Conference players.
The Lady Toppers will be back in action on Thursday, March 13 in the quarterfinals of the CUSA Championship in Huntsville, Alabama. The No. 3 seeded WKU will face the No. 6 seed FIU at 2 p.m. All-session passes can be purchased here. All-session passes for the event will be General Admission and are $175. The $175 all-session passes include all 20 men's and women's games.
