ATLANTA, Ga. – WKU Softball finished out its weekend in the peach state with a 4-2 loss to Georgia Tech.
The Hilltoppers struck first in the top of the second thanks to a single from senior catcher Randi Drinnon and added another in the top of the seventh as sophomore infielder Maci Masters hit her second home run of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
WKU 2, Georgia Tech 4
The second matchup in as many days between the two squads started as a pitcher's duel with junior righthander Maddy Wood earning her second start of the season.
WKU eventually broke open scoring in the top of the second as Drinnon hit a ball down the right field line scoring Masters who reached earlier with a single to shortstop.
The Red & White were quiet offensively in the top of the third, but the Yellow Jackets were the opposite with a three-run home run over the left field wall.
Georgia Tech added another run in the bottom of the fourth to bring the score to 4-1 going into the top of the fifth.
The fifth and sixth frames weren't productive offensively, but Masters drilled the second pitch of her at-bat to bring WKU to two. Masters' home run was the second of the weekend that also came off the second pitch of her at-bat.
