WKU women's basketball concluded a perfect weekend after defeating conference opponents Kennesaw State, 78-57, and Jacksonville State, 68-64, in overtime.
As the regular season winds down, the Lady Toppers are prioritizing rest and rehabilitation, as five of the seven games left will be played on the road. This week, however, they're keeping the main focus on Middle Tennessee.
"Middle Tennessee is a great defensive team. They're able to control the pace of the game with their defense. So we've got to play great defense, we've got to take care of the ball, which is something we did well over the weekend, but we're still going to have to put points on the board. If we're not taking care of the ball, it makes that challenge increasingly more difficult. So we've got to play great defense, get rebounds, and knock some shots down," head coach Greg Collins said in the weekly press conference.
The Lady Toppers met Middle Tennessee earlier this season and defeated the Blue Raiders 63-58 at home in Diddle Arena. As they travel over the state line this Saturday, Collins wants to make sure his team is in rhythm, and that everyone on the floor and the bench is focused on one thing - winning.
"I know that this team is focused on one game at a time. They know where we are in the standings, but they're good at making sure we give respect to the opponent we're getting ready to play. You've seen this conference - just about anybody can beat anybody on any given night. So we've got to show up for all four quarters."
The 100 Miles of Hate rivalry rematch is slated for Saturday, Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
