ABOUT THE TOPS
- WKU is coming off a 77-61 loss at Marshall on Wednesday, Dec. 10. It was the first loss of the season on the road for the Hilltoppers, who enter Monday's game with a 6-3 overall record in nonconference play.
- WKU is 4-0 at E.A. Diddle Arena so far this season, with wins over Tennessee Tech, Tennessee State, Bethel (Tenn.) and Evansville. The Hilltoppers are 17-5 at home under Mahurin Family Foundation Head Coach Hank Plona during his two seasons on The Hill.
- Through the first nine games of the season, WKU has been one of the nation's premier free throw teams, ranking seventh nationally with 21.4 makes on 29.3 attempts per contest. The Hilltoppers have earned at least 21 attempts in every game, including three outings with 30 or more against Tennessee Tech, Tennessee State and Vanderbilt, plus a season-high 41 attempts against Bethel (Tenn.). They have converted at least 17 free throws in eight of nine games, highlighted by a season-best 31 makes against Bethel, and have won the free throw battle in seven of eight contests. Their performance against Bethel marked the program's most free throws made and attempted in a game since going 36-of-45 in an 88-74 win over Tennessee State on Dec. 1, 2018.
- The Hilltoppers' depth has been a major strength early in the season, as they average 37.7 bench points per game to rank 16th nationally. WKU's reserves have provided consistent scoring punch, topping the 40-point mark four times, including 56 points against Bethel, 54 against Evansville and 46 in the season opener against Tennessee Tech. The Evansville game featured a breakout performance from graduate guard Ryan Myers, who came off the bench to score 27 points, one shy of his career high, while matching his career best with seven made 3-pointers and shooting 9-of-16 from the field in a season-high 31 minutes.
- Redshirt sophomore guard Teagan Moore has been a major catalyst in WKU's 6-3 start, averaging a team-best 18.4 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. He has scored at least 15 points in eight of nine games and posted a career-high 27 points against South Florida on day two of Battle 4 Atlantis. Moore was one of the top performers in the event, finishing second in points per game (23.0), fifth in rebounds (7.3), fifth in assists (4.0), sixth in field goal percentage (51.2%) and third in free-throw percentage (92.6%). The Dry Ridge, Kentucky, native is the fourth-leading scorer in Conference USA in points per game. He missed all of last season due to injury after earning Conference USA All-Freshman Team honors in 2023-24.
- Freshman guard Armelo Boone was named Conference USA Freshman of the Week for three straight weeks from Nov. 17–Dec. 1. He turned in an impressive three-game run at Battle 4 Atlantis, averaging 17.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 0.7 blocks and 0.3 steals while shooting 45.9% from the field and 82.3% at the free-throw line.
