ABOUT THE TOPSÂ
- Last time out, the Hilltoppers competed in the Belmont Opener where the women's team saw multiple top-10 finishers. Kinley Kunkel took fifth place and Mary Dye claimed eighth in the 5k race.
- On the men's side, Jared Sandfoss once again led the charge for the Red and White.
- In the opening meet, Kunkel's fifth place finish marked the best finish for a Hilltopper since she claimed fifth at the Live in Lou Classic last October.
- In total, eight Hilltoppers finished inside the top-30 at the opening meet a few weeks ago.
- Veterans look to continue to lead the team this season with the likes of Dye, Kunkel, Trevor Hudnall, and Sandfoss.
QUOTABLEÂ
On the second race, head coach Lee Wood said "I think we are making some progress and getting more prepared to race each week. Athletes have been working really hard and have been pushing each other a lot in workouts! Excited to see what we can do in a deep field of runners this weekend!"
MEET HISTORY
- This will mark the first time the Hilltoppers have competed in the state of Alabama since the 2022 season.
- That season, the team competed in three meets in the state including one hosted by Jacksonville State (Foothills Invitational).
- This is the second time in three years the Tops will run in the Rocket City.
- WKU will also compete in Alabama for the 2024 Conference USA Championships to start the postseason in early November.
SCOUTING THE FIELD
- WKU will compete against the likes of southern powers Alabama, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, and Vanderbilt.
- The Tops won't be the only team from the Bluegrass State. The Cumberlands, Kentucky, Louisville, and Morehead State will also fill out the field.
- Long time rival and Conference USA foe Middle Tennessee will also be lining up against the Hilltoppers on Friday morning.
