JAX STATE 3, WKU 2
The Gamecocks picked up the initial lead off of a two-run homer into right-center field in the bottom of the third.
The Hilltoppers tied the game at two apiece in the top of the fourth frame. WKU scored a run from a Taylor Sanders triple into left-center field, as she collected her 49th RBI of the season. Annie White later sent Sanders across the plate from a sacrifice-fly into left.
Jax State picked up the go-ahead and solidified the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth from advancing on a wild pitch.
Rylan Smith started in the circle for WKU, working through 2.1 innings before Katie Gardner closed things down. She held the Gamecocks scoreless for three innings and earned five strikeouts at the plate.
TOP STORYLINES
- Jax State leads WKU in the all-time series, 5-2.
- Taylor Sanders' RBI triple in the fourth inning brings her career total to 177. She is now two RBIs away from breaking the program record.
- Along with Sanders, TJ Webster, Cheyanne Sales, and Morgan Sharpe each picked up a hit during the game. Webster is currently on a five-game hitting streak.
- Webster leads Conference USA with a .412 batting average, while she garners 54 hits to lead WKU.
- The Red and White continue to lead Conference USA in batting average (.300) and fielding percentage (.970) on the season.
- Katie Gardner is operating with a 2.64 ERA to lead the WKU pitching staff, producing 111 strikeouts at the plate. Rylan Smith is next in line with a 3.95 ERA with 97 strikeouts.
- The Hilltoppers and Gamecocks will wrap up the series tomorrow, April 28 at 1 p.m. CT. The game is broadcast on ESPN+.
