BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Women's Golf junior Catie Craig was selected to go the Forest Akers Golf Course in East Lansing, MI., for the NCAA Women's Golf Regionals. This is the second year in a row that Craig has been selected to compete in the Golf Regionals. The Lady Topper will be competing from May 6-8.
"My first thoughts are excitement of course, while I wish the whole team could go, I am extremely blessed to have gotten a pick as an individual. I'm so happy I get to compete and represent Western again this year," said Craig. " Getting sent to the Michigan site with my sister and her team is also incredible considering this is her last opportunity as a collegiate golfer. Being there with her will only make the experience more memorable."
"Super excited to make it to the post season," added head coach Adam Gary. "Also, really excited Catie's sister will be in Michigan also. We have played in Michigan State's tournament before so that should help knowing the course a little."
Craig clinched this post season regional berth by having a record-breaking season for the Lady Tops. The junior finished in the top-10 of every tournament played this season, including nine straight finishes in the top-five. She broke the season stroke average record (70.26), the lowest round score record (63), the lowest 36-hole score record (130), and lowest 54-hole score (201).
The Lady Topper led WKU to eight top-three finishes this season, along with two victories. She also scored individual wins at the Jennifer Duke Invitational and Spring Break Shootout. The Georgia native was named CUSA Golfer of the Week on five occasions this year.
Craig goes into the regional as the number two seed among individuals.
