Lady Toppers Fall To LA Tech In CUSA Quarterfinals

MIAMI – WKU Women's Tennis lost to Louisiana Tech 4-0 in the Conference USA Championship quarterfinals on Friday at the Pay Cargo Tennis Facility.

The Lady Toppers finish the season with a 14-11 record. The 14 wins are tied for the fourth-most in a single season in program history. The match marked the first time WKU had made the CUSA Championship quarterfinals since the 2018 season.

"Congrats to LA Tech. They played a great match and were deserving of advancing," WKU Head Coach Greg Davis said. "Had a great performance at No. 1 doubles. Sayda (Hernandez) and Paola (Cortez) played very well and pulled out the win. Going in, we felt like we needed to win the doubles in order to gain the advantage going into singles, especially with this being a close matchup. LA Tech made more plays than us at the end of the day."

WKU dropped the doubles point, but picked up a victory in the No. 1 position from Cortez and Hernandez. The pair defeated Valentina Vasquez and Tiffani Nash 6-3.
