BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Basketball head coach Steve Lutz resigned on Monday to accept the same position at Oklahoma State. A national search for Lutz's successor is already underway.
"I wish Steve Lutz and his family all the best on their next journey at Oklahoma State. While he was only here one season, Steve's dedication and work ethic certainly made it a memorable one and we are in a much better place today than a year ago. I have met with our players and assistant coaching staff. We have known this outcome was a possibility and have begun the process to identify our next head coach. Our goals of winning conference championships and playing in NCAA Tournaments remain."
WKU was one of nine schools – and the only Non-Power Five school – to win an FBS bowl game and make the NCAA Tournament in men's basketball. The Hilltoppers are one of the most historically successful college basketball programs, with the seventh-most 20-win seasons in NCAA D1 history (48).
The Hilltoppers were 22-12 in 2023-24 and Conference USA Tournament champions. WKU made its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2012-13, falling to No. 2 seed Marquette in the first round on Friday, March 22. In all, WKU Basketball has 44 all-time conference championships, third-most in college basketball.
