ST SIMON'S ISLAND, Ga. – The WKU men's golf team completed the second round of The Peoples Championship in St. Simon's Island. Day two saw the Tops slip a little bit in the standings after being in 11th place yesterday as they now sit in 16th heading into Saturday's final round.
Nic Hofman has continued to lead WKU as the redshirt junior posted a 2-over 73 second round. This round included Hofman meeting par on seven consecutive holes and putting in back-to-back birdies on holes six and seven. Heading into the final round, Hofman is looking to regain some ground as he is currently tied for 34th heading into Saturday.
Making a jump for WKU is junior Riley Grindstaff. After tying for 64th in the first round, Grindstaff posted a 2-over 73 second round of his own. The junior put in four total birdies in this round and this resulted in Grindstaff moving up seven spots on the board and being tied for 57th heading into round three.
Continuing his tournament for WKU, Luke Fuller is currently tied for 75th on the board. Fuller ended his Friday with a 6-over 77 round two. Fuller did put in two birdies and is going to look to regain some ground heading into the final round.
Four spots behind Fuller is fellow WKU teammate Connery Meyer who is tied for 79th overall. Meyer posted a 9-over 80 second round, including two birdies. This second round brings Meyer's total score to a 9-over 151.
Rounding out the Tops lineup for the second round was Stephen Warren. Warren moved up one spot in round two, tying for 121st. Warren had a consistent second round for WKU, meeting par 10 times and putting in a birdie on hole 11. Warren posted a 7-over 178 for the Tops.
After a second round that was less than stellar for the Tops, they will look to regain some momentum for tomorrow's final round. WKU now possess a 22-over 590 total score heading into Saturday.
The third and final round for the Tops will begin tomorrow morning at 8 A.M.
