ABOUT THE TOPS
- The Lady Toppers got the 2024-25 season underway on Monday night at Indiana State with a 71-59 win. Zsophia Telegdy led the way with 25 points. Acacia Hayes tied a program record with 10 steals. Mackenzie Chatfield went off for a career high 19 points on 5-of-9 shooting from 3-point range.
- WKU will be looking to start the season 2-0 for the 23rd time in program history and the second straight season.
- Coming into the game, the Lady Toppers are 40-11 in home openers all-time.
- Defense is a hallmark for Greg Collins' teams on The Hill. WKU has finished in the top 30 nationally in steals per game in four of the last five seasons and last season the Lady Toppers held opponents to 63.5 points per game, the lowest average of any Collins coached team at WKU.
- Five Lady Toppers come to Bowling Green internationally, which is the highest number of international athletes WKU women's basketball has had on one team in program history.
- The Lady Toppers were picked to finish fourth in the Conference USA preseason coaches poll, behind Middle Tennessee, Liberty and FIU and above Louisiana Tech in fifth.
SERIES INFORMATION
- Saturday's game will be the 12th all-time between WKU and Kentucky State. The Lady Toppers own an 11-0 record against the Thorobreds.
- The series dates back to the 1973-74 season. The most recent meeting came on Nov. 21, 2021 when WKU took a 96-59 win. Alexis Mead is the only current Lady Topper that played in that game. She had 11 points, five assists, four steals and two rebounds.
ABOUT THE THOROBREDS
- Kentucky State will tipoff the 2024-25 season on Friday night at Kentucky Wesleyan before making the trip south to Bowling Green on Saturday.
- The Thorobreds took on Loyola Chicago in an exhibition game on Monday, Nov. 4, falling 91-56. Naja Fenelon led Thorobred scorers with 16 points. Shannon Niles chipped in 15. Mondrea Williams and Jeana Weatherspoon led the team on the boards, pulling down five rebounds each.
- Kentucky State finished last season 19-6 overall and won the SIAC Regular Season West Division title.
