ABOUT THE TOPS
- WKU unofficially tipped off the 2024-25 season with an exhibition win against Lee University. The Lady Toppers came out on top, 70-48, in Diddle Arena. Alexis Mead was the leading scorer with 14 points while Zsofia Teledgy had 12 and Mackenzie Chatfield added 10. Josie Gilvin crashed the boards for a team-leading seven rebounds.
- The Lady Toppers are 36-15 in season openers since the 1973-74 season and will be searching for their second straight season opening win after defeating Mercer to begin the 2023-24 season.
- WKU returns five from the 2024-25 season, including four starters. Alexis Mead is back for her senior season on The Hill as a three-year starter. Leading scorer Acacia Hayes will be returning for her junior season after missing several games in conference play last season due to injury. Second leading scorer Destiny Salary will play her fifth and final season of college basketball in 2024-25 after averaging 12.7 points per game last season. Junior Josie Gilvin took on a bigger role last season, starting nine of the last 11 games. Sophomore point guard Mackenzie Chatfield will be back with a season under her belt.
- Defense is a hallmark for Greg Collins' teams on The Hill. WKU has finished in the top 30 nationally in steals per game in four of the last five seasons and last season the Lady Toppers held opponents to 63.5 points per game, the lowest average of any Collins coached team at WKU.
- WKU will have nine newcomers in 2024-25, including transfers Mya Pratcher (Jackson State), Mariama Sow (UTEP), Zsofia Telegdy (Kansas), junior college transfers Caleigh-Rose West, Tatum Boettjer, Tia Shelling, Yendri Acosta along with freshmen Torri James and Salma Khedr.
- Five Lady Toppers come to Bowling Green internationally, which is the highest number of international athletes WKU women's basketball has had on one team in program history.
- The Lady Toppers were picked to finish fourth in the Conference USA preseason coaches poll, behind Middle Tennessee, Liberty and FIU and above Louisiana Tech in fifth.
SERIES INFORMATION
- Monday's game will be the seventh all-time between WKU and Indiana State. The Lady Toppers own a 5-1 record against the Sycamores in the series.
- WKU has won five straight in the series and have a 2-0 record in Terre Haute.
ABOUT THE SYCAMORES
- Indiana State finished last season with an 11-21 record, but the Sycamores will have a new look in 2024-25 with new head coach Marc Mitchell. Mitchell came to Indiana State from the University of Indianapolis with other stops at Saint Peter's and FDU-Florham.
- The Sycamores lost four starters from the 2023-24 team, including their top three leading scorers. Bella Finnegan is the lone returning starter. She averaged 9.6 points per game last year. The Sycamores welcomed five newcomers in the offseason, all transfers.
