ABOUT THE TOPS
- WKU is off to a 5-0 start for the sixth time in program history and the first time since 2005-06. The Lady Toppers will be aiming for a 6-0 start which would be the third best start in program history and the best since the 1994-95 season.
- Four of WKU's starting five are currently averaging double-digit points – Acacia Hayes: 15.8, Destiny Salary: 11.4, Alexis Mead: 11.2, and Josie Gilvin: 10.2. WKU has had four different leading scorers through five games.
- Acacia Hayes earned Conference USA Player of the Week on Monday for her efforts last week. The junior put up 21 points against North Dakota and 14 at Abilene Christian. Hayes is leading CUSA in field goal percentage (60.0) and steals per game (4.20). Her takeaways per game are the fourth most in the country.
- Alexis Mead became the 43rd member of the Lady Topper 1,000 Point Club on Sunday against North Dakota. The senior is 15 assists away and 12 steals away from reaching WKU's career top 10 in each category.
- Defense is a hallmark for Greg Collins' teams on The Hill. WKU has finished in the top 30 nationally in steals per game in four of the last five seasons and currently have the 15th best steals per game rate in the country (14.2). Last season the Lady Toppers held opponents to 63.5 points per game, the lowest average of any Collins coached team at WKU. So far this season WKU has not allowed more than 69 points in a game.
- Five Lady Toppers come to Bowling Green internationally, which is the highest number of international athletes WKU women's basketball has had on one team in program history.
- The Lady Toppers were picked to finish fourth in the Conference USA preseason coaches poll, behind Middle Tennessee, Liberty and FIU and above Louisiana Tech in fifth.
SERIES INFORMATION
- Wednesday's game will be the sixth all-time between WKU and Tennessee State. WKU owns a 4-1 record in the series.
- WKU won the most recent matchup, 77-65, on Nov. 28, 2021 in Bowling Green.
ABOUT THE TIGERS
- Tennessee State is coming into Wednesday's off a 72-68 win against Akron on Friday. The win snapped a three-game losing streak that included losses to Lipscomb, Wright State and Dayton. The Tigers started the season 2-0 with wins against Cumberland and Eastern Kentucky to open the season.
- Tennessee State has three players averaging double-digit points. Somah Kamara leads the team with 13.8 points per game, Sanaa St. Andre is putting up 13.2 points per game and Saniah Parker is averaging 11.8.
