The Hilltoppers are entering their fifth indoor season under Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Brent Chumbley. Anthony Acklin is in his first season as Associate Head Coach and second with the indoor team. Assistant coaches Lee Wood and Lauren Zaglifa are in their first seasons with the team.
On the upcoming season, Chumbley said "We are excited to get on a track and knock the rust off from a long winter break. The weather has made training a little difficult but the team has done a great job staying focused and taking care of themselves physically. We expect several good performances from a lot of new team members and returners should be ahead of where we were last year."
"The indoor season as a whole should be good for us. As long as we stay healthy, we will have a much better year than last year. The new look of CUSA still leaves a lot of questions but we are excited for the 2024 Indoor campaign."
Sixteen men and 21 women are scheduled to compete for the Red and White in the weekend's events.
WKU has numerous returners who had strong indoor seasons in 2023 including Grace Turner (pole vault/high jump), Katie Isenbarger (high jump), Demetrius Rolle (sprints), Kaison Barton (throws), and Ajla Basic (throws).
Basic looks to improve on an impressive 2023 indoor campaign where she notched three top-five finishes in the weight throw including a fourth place finish at the CUSA Championships.
On Friday, field events will run from 12 p.m. through 4:30 p.m. As women's weight throw concludes field activities, the track will start to heat up at that same time. Four different events will be run during the evening, finishing with the men's 5k at 7:45 p.m.
On Saturday, action will start with the men's shot put at 10Â a.m. Women's pole vault, both men's and women's triple jump and women's shot put will also compete throughout the afternoon. The track will be active from noon through 4:30 p.m., concluding with the women's and men's 4x400-meter relays.
