BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Cross Country is set to host the WKU Invitational on Friday, Sept. 15.
The meet, which will be held at Hobson Grove Park, marks the first time the Hilltoppers have hosted a meet since the 2019 CUSA Championships.Â
On hosting their first meet in four years Head Coach Ron Becht said, "There are a lot of small details, it's been hectic, but the support from the university has been great and we're looking forward to Friday night."
The men's squad will open the meet with an 8K beginning at 4:00 p.m. CT, followed by the women's 6K at 5:00 p.m. CT.
Last time out, WKU participated in the Belmont Opener in Nashville, Tenn. Freshmen made their mark, leading the way for the Hilltoppers in both races.Â
Jared Sandfoss led the men's squad finishing in 16:08. In the women's race, Kylie Kunkel led the way for the red and white finishing in 19:43.
Following the WKU Invitational, the Hilltoppers will stay in the Commonwealth and will travel to Louisville for the Live in the Lou Classic on Sept. 30.
Meet Notes
- The WKU Invitational marks the first time since the 2019 CUSA Championships that the Hilltoppers will host a meet. That meet was held at Kereiakes Park.
- The Hilltoppers will be one of six teams competing in Friday's meet. The University of the Cumberlands, Murray State, and UT Chattanooga highlight the list of other participants.Â
- Two freshmen on the men's side, Michael House (Bowling Green HS) and Trevor Hudnall (Warren East) are natives of Bowling Green and running in their hometown Friday.
- WKU also hosts this season's CUSA Championships at Hobson Grove Park on Saturday, Oct. 28.
