WKU Notes
- WKU got its first win of the season on Saturday against Union with a 5-0 decision. Katie Erwin, Emily Speidel, Amanda Simpson, Anna Isger and Alaina Nugier each scored a goal in the match. It was the first career goals for Speidel, Simpson and Nugier.
- The Lady Toppers opened the season last Thursday night with a 1-1 tie against Tennessee Tech at the WKU Soccer Complex. Katie Erwin scored WKU's lone goal in the 15th minute off a free kick. The Golden Eagles scored the tying goal in the 85th minute.
- Erwin had an impressive opening week with two goals and an assist. She is WKU's top points earner with five total. Anna Isger notched three points against Union with a goal and an assist.
- Maddie Davis has been WKU's starting goalkeeper through the first two matches. She is credited with the shutout against Union and has a 0.50 goals against average for the season.
- WKU secured a pair of shutouts in exhibition play with a 1-0 win at Belmont (Aug. 10) and a 2-0 win at Chattanooga (Aug. 5). Freshman Rylee Finol scored WKU's lone goal against Belmont and returners Erwin and Kayla Meyer each scored in the victory against Chattanooga. Goalkeeper Maddie Davis played all 90 minutes in goal for the Lady Toppers against Chattanooga, making six saves on the day. Davis split time with Emma Tompkins and Mia Roberts against Belmont with all three keepers playing 30 minutes in goal. Roberts made the only WKU save of the match.
- WKU has 17 returners back from the 2022 season to go along with 12 newcomers that include four transfers and eight true freshmen.
- The Lady Toppers are in the midst of a six-match homestand going through Sept. 3 against Belmont.
Series Notes
- Thursday's match will be the first ever between WKU and Siena.
Siena Notes
- The Saints opened the season with a pair of 3-0 losses last week. Siena faced Central Connecticut in the season opener and then took on Syracuse. Both matches were at home.
- Through two matches, Julia Dening is leading the team in shots with six on the season.
- Siena had two starting goalkeepers in the first two matches of the season. Brooke Boermeester got the starting nod against Central Connecticut State, making five saves. Angela Fini made the start against Syracuse, stopping seven shots.
