WKU Notes
- The Lady Toppers opened the season on Thursday night with a 1-1 tie against Tennessee Tech at the WKU Soccer Complex. Katie Erwin scored WKU's lone goal in the 15th minute off a free kick. The Golden Eagles scored the tying goal in the 85th minute.
- WKU moved to 19-2-2 in home openers all-time and 14-8-1 in season openers.
- WKU secured a pair of shutouts in exhibition play with a 1-0 win at Belmont (Aug. 10) and a 2-0 win at Chattanooga (Aug. 5). Freshman Rylee Finol scored WKU's lone goal against Belmont and returners Erwin and Kayla Meyer each scored in the victory against Chattanooga. Goalkeeper Maddie Davis played all 90 minutes in goal for the Lady Toppers against Chattanooga, making six saves on the day. Davis split time with Emma Tompkins and Mia Roberts against Belmont with all three keepers playing 30 minutes in goal. Roberts made the only WKU save of the match.
- WKU has 17 returners back from the 2022 season to go along with 12 newcomers that include four transfers and eight true freshmen.
- The Lady Toppers are in the midst of a six-match homestand going through Sept. 3 against Belmont.
Series Notes
- WKU and Union have played twice in program history with the Lady Toppers winning both meetings.
- In 2021, WKU earned a 3-0 win against the Bulldogs and in 2022 the Lady Toppers notched a 5-0 victory.
- Katie Erwin notched a 4-point game against Union in 2021 with a goal and two assists and scored another goal against the Bulldogs in 2022.
- Brooke Sleeva, Kayla Meyer and Anna Isger also scored against Union in 2022. WKU's five goals in that were the most the team has scored since the 2019 season.
- Maddie Davis made her collegiate debut in the second half of the match against Union in 2022. She came in and made one save.
Union Notes
- The Bulldogs have not played a match yet this season.
- Union's top returning points earner is Madison Woolridge who scored two goals and notched an assist in 2022.
- Rylee Iorio returns for the Bulldogs in goal after starting in 15 matches last season. Iorio had a 1.60 goals against average for the season.
