BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU Soccer (6-4-7, 4-2-2 CUSA) dropped a 1-0 decision to New Mexico State (9-5-3, 6-0-2 CUSA) on Friday night at the WKU Soccer Complex.
It was a stalemate between the two teams until New Mexico State broke through in the 75th minute to go ahead 1-0. With the win, the Aggies clinched the Conference USA regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the CUSA Championship next week. The Lady Toppers will find out their seed in the tournament following the other results around the league.
WKU outshot New Mexico State 18-12 in the match, including 10-5 in the first half. The Lady Toppers came out aggressive, getting three shots in the first five minutes.
Aspen Seaich and Katie Erwin each had four shots to lead the Lady Toppers. Kayla Meyer had three and Sydney Ernst, Brooke Sleeva and Georgia Liapis each had two.
Goalkeeper Maddie Davis had five saves in the match.
Eight WKU seniors were honored following the match. Ambere Barnett, Rachel Dewey, Sydney Ernst, Katie Erwin, Carmen Marin, Kenlee Newcom and Emily Speidel were all recognized.
WKU's next match will be in the CUSA tournament in Ruston, Louisiana next week. The full bracket will be announced on Sunday following the final CUSA match of the regular season.
