BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU Tennis continues its 2023 spring season on Friday, January 20, as the team hosts UT Chattanooga and Eastern Kentucky for a doubleheader before heading to Nashville for a matchup with Lipscomb on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 4 p.m. CT. Doubles play at the Michael O. Buchanon Tennis Facility will begin at 1 p.m. CT against Chattanooga and 6 p.m. CT against Eastern Kentucky.

WKU is 3-7 all-time against UT Chattanooga, playing for the first time in 1982 when the Lady Toppers beat the Mocs for the first time in program history, 4-2, in Bowling Green. Last season, the Lady Toppers hosted the Mocs, beating them for the first time since 2017, 4-3.
UT Chattanooga had a dual match record of 9-9 in 2021, going 2-5 in Southern Conference play. In 2022, they held a record of 14-9, losing in the second round of the conference tournament to Furman, 4-0, who eventually won the Southern Conference Tournament.
The Mocs currently have a 1-0 record after beating UNC Asheville last Sunday by a score of 4-3.

The Lady Toppers are 6-10 all-time against Eastern Kentucky, meeting for the first time in 1974. The Colonels were victorious, winning the match 7-2 in Richmond, Ky. The sides have not met since 2018 when WKU pulled out the win, 5-2, in DeLand, Fla.

The EKU Women's Tennis program has not seen action since 2018 when it was in the Ohio Valley Conference. They held a record of 16-9, going 9-0 in conference play. The team made the NCAA Tournament and lost in the first round to #4 Georgia Tech, 4-0.

The Colonels are scheduled to play its first matches of the season today, January 19, against Northern Kentucky and Campbellsville.

WKU is 14-13 all-time against Lipscomb, with the first matchup taking place in 2001. Last season, Lipscomb visited The Hill for the first time since 2011 where the Lady Toppers got the win over the Bisons for the first time since 2018, winning the dual match 4-3.

Lipscomb had a dual match record of 10-9 in 2021, losing in the second round of the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament to North Florida, 4-0. In 2022, they went 6-14, while finishing 2-7 in conference play.

The Bisons faced North Dakota last Sunday, winning by a score of 5-2 in their first dual match of the regular season.

WKU has started its season 1-0 in dual matches with a 4-3 comeback win at Bellarmine last Saturday.
