CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — WKU Tennis begins its fall season at the Austin Peay Invitational this weekend. The Lady Toppers will compete on Friday, September 16 and Sunday, September 18 at the Austin Peay Governors Tennis Courts, with Saturday's matches being played at the Swan Lake Tennis Complex in Clarksville.
The Austin Peay Invitational will pin WKU against players from host Austin Peay, Chattanooga, UT Martin, and Murray State.
WKU is 29-12 all-time against Austin Peay in dual match competition. Last season on March 4, the Governors edged the Lady Toppers by a score of 4-3 at the outdoor courts at the Michael O. Buchanon Tennis Complex. WKU is 3-7 all-time against Chattanooga, with its most recent victory coming last spring, beating the Mocs, 4-3 on February 27. The second match of the day Saturday comes against UT Martin. The Lady Toppers swept UT Martin last January, 4-0 putting them at 5-2 all-time against the Skyhawks. The final match of the weekend is against Murray State. The Racers bested WKU last spring, 5-2 giving the Lady Toppers a 4-18 all-time record against them.

This will be the first of two fall tournaments for WKU over the next three weeks.
"I think it is going to be a challenging tournament for us. There are a lot of good teams in this tournament," head coach Greg Davis said. "Many of them we played last year and they will be on our schedule this year as well. Austin Peay always runs a very difficult tournament. We are anxious to see where the team is at right now. This is going to be a good first test because all of these are quality teams, and it is going to be a challenge. Especially Saturday when you are playing two singles and two doubles outside in 90-degree heat. It is going to give us a good barometer on where we are at right now."
WKU will also play in the Middle Tennessee Invitational in Murfreesboro from October 1-2 for its final action of the fall season.
