BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU Soccer opened its 2022 campaign Wednesday with a scoreless draw against Murray State at the WKU Soccer Complex, before both teams opted for a penalty kick shootout that went 4-2 to the Lady Toppers.
WKU outshot Murray State 13-9 overall in regulation, including 9-5 on shots on goal in the match. Katie Erwin led the Lady Toppers with three shots.
Goalkeepers Maddie Davis and Ashley Kobylinski each played a clean 45 minutes with five saves between them.
After 90 scoreless minutes, each teams opted to move directly to a penalty kick shootout.
Kobylinski responded with two stops in goal for WKU, while Ambere Barnett, Carmen Marin, Lyric Schmidt and Erwin went a perfect 4-for-4 to seal it for the Lady Toppers.
WKU will play its final exhibition of the preseason at Austin Peay at 2 p.m. CT Sunday in Clarksville, Tenn.
