SAN ANTONIO, Texas – WKU Track & Field freshman Ajla Basic made her way to the podium on Friday evening after placing second in the women's hammer throw at the Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Basic took home the silver medal with a personal best throw of 59.07 meters, earning Second Team All-Conference honors and scoring eight points for the women. She is the first All-Conference female in hammer throw for WKU since Janessa Jackson in 2016.
WKU scored points for the men's side in hammer throw with a sixth-place finish by Joel Dittoe. He threw a PR with a mark of 55.06 meters. He scored three points for the men on the opening day of the championships.
Distance runner Savannah Heckman added to Friday's point total for the women after finishing eighth in the 10,000-meter race. She added a point with a time of 37:22.79.
The Hilltoppers will restart action beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
