HOUSTON, Texas – WKU Baseball dropped game two of its three-game series against Rice, 13-8, on Saturday afternoon at Reckling Park.
After the Owls jumped out to a 12-1 lead through three innings, the Hilltoppers chipped away throughout the contest, but ultimately couldn't find enough offense to complete the comeback.
"It was a great job by our offense to fight back into this game," said head coach
John Pawlowski. "I give our hitters credit, we took our walks and our hit-by-pitches. If we can continue to do that stuff we'll be in these games that we have remaining. I thought we did a good job offensively, especially with that early deficit."
WKU utilized four pitchers on the mound, with the group combining to allow 13 runs (12 earned) while recording five strikeouts in 8.0 innings of action.
At the plate, the Hilltoppers tallied six hits and five walks.
Justin Carlin led the way, going 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI, while
Ty Crittenberger,
AJ Fiechter,
Tristin Garcia and
Brian McAuliffe each added one hit apiece.
