BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU Tennis continued its 2022 season Friday morning. The Lady Toppers fell to the Butler Bulldogs by a score of 4-3 in Indianapolis. The Lady Toppers move to 13-7 on the season while Butler improved to 6-11.
WKU got the lead early by winning the doubles point.
The No. 1 duo of Cora-Lynn von Dungern and Paola Cortez won their ninth match in a row, 6-1. They improve to 14-1 overall on the campaign. The Lady Toppers were able to clinch the first point after the No. 3 pair of Samantha Martinez and Sofia Blanco took their doubles match, 6-3. They improve to 9-2 overall on the year.
Up 1-0 going into singles play, the Lady Toppers dropped four of the six singles matches.
Rachel Hermanova continued her hot streak, winning in straight sets at No. 4, 6-2, 6-3. She improves to a team-best 16-3 on the season. The Bulldogs picked up four wins in a row following that at No. 1, No. 3, No. 2, and No. 5 to take the lead and clinch the match, 4-2.
With the match already decided, the final match was played out. Sofia Blanco was able to get another point for the Tops, winning 6-0, 6-0 on Court 6.
"It was a tough college tennis match. Butler really deserves a great deal of credit for how they played today." head coach Greg Davis said. "We got the doubles point and we just were not able to sustain in singles when the match got close."
WKU will play tomorrow, March 26 in Indianapolis against Illinois-Chicago. The match will begin at 10 a.m. ET and will be played in the Butler Bubble.
