BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU Tennis continues the 2022 season this week playing three matches in four days, starting on Monday, March 14 at UAB, continuing on Wednesday, March 16 at Alabama State, and finishing on Thursday, March 17 at Alabama A&M.
All three matches will begin at 1 p.m.
Last weekend, WKU lost at home to Murray State, 5-2, after winning the doubles point. The Lady Toppers fell to 10-5 on the campaign.
Cora-Lynn von Dungern broke the record for doubles wins in a career at WKU, passing Lisa Friess. She improved to 32-11 in her career.
WKU is 1-6 all-time against UAB, playing for the first time in 1986. The Lady Toppers got their first win against the Blazers in 2018 in Birmingham, winning 4-1. This will be the first of three Conference USA matches of the season for WKU. UAB comes into the match with a record of 8-5, losing their last match to Kennesaw State, 5-2.
Last year, the Blazers took the victory against the Lady Toppers, winning the dual match, 4-2. They finished the season 14-7, losing to Old Dominion in the Conference USA quarterfinals, 4-0.
WKU is an undefeated 7-0 against Alabama State. The sides have not faced off since 2012, where the Lady Toppers won by a 7-0 sweep in Montgomery.
The Hornets have a record of 5-5 on the year, beating Southern by a 4-0 sweep on Sunday, March 13. They finished with a 9-7 record last year, losing to Florida State in the NCAA Tournament, 4-0.
The Lady Toppers have an all-time record of 8-1 against Alabama A&M. Last year, the squads faced off for the first time in seven years in Huntsville. WKU was able to get the 6-1 win, giving them a 7-match win streak against the Bulldogs.
Alabama A&M has posted a record of 5-8 thus far this season, coming off a 4-3 win at Alcorn State on Sunday, March 13. They finished the 2021 season with a 5-7 record, losing to Alabama State in the SWAC semifinals, 4-0.
