Head coach Davis Interview
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU Tennis continues the 2022 season this weekend on Saturday, March 12 against Murray State.
Doubles play, indoors, at the Michael O. Buchanon tennis facility will begin at 1 p.m.
"Murray State is always tough. It is 4-3 every year. It always seems to come down to the last match." head coach Greg Davis said. "We expect another very difficult match with a very worthy opponent in Murray State this weekend."
Last weekend, WKU played three matches in three days against Austin Peay, SIU Edwardsville, and Belmont. The Lady Toppers lost Friday night to the Governors before winning back-to-back matches on Saturday and Sunday to finish the weekend 2-1. The Lady Toppers improved to 10-4 on the season, reaching double-digit wins for the first time since 2017.
WKU is 4-17 all-time against Murray State, playing for the first time in 1974. The sides have faced off at Murray for the past two seasons. Before the 2020 season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lady Toppers were able to take victory against the Racers, 4-3. That win marked back-to-back wins against Murray State for WKU going back to the 2016 season.
Last year, the Racers got the upper hand on the Lady Toppers, winning the very close dual match, 4-3. This will be the first time Murray State has visited The Hill since 2011.
In the 2021 season, the Racers finished 8-10, losing to Austin Peay in the OVC Tournament semifinals, 4-0. WKU visited Murray State last year, losing 4-3 in a very close dual match.
The Racers have started the 2022 season 5-5 and are coming off a 5-2 loss at Cincinnati.
