WKU Tennis Ready for Matchup Against IUPUI on Sunday

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU Tennis continues its 2022 spring season on Sunday, February 6, as the squad hosts the IUPUI Jaguars. Doubles play at the Michael O. Buchanon Park tennis facility will begin at 1 p.m.

The Lady Toppers are coming off back-to-back wins in a doubleheader last Sunday, January 30 against the Lipscomb Bisons, 4-3 and the UT Martin Skyhawks, 5-0.

"We were really happy with those victories," head coach Greg Davis said. "I thought we played extremely hard and competed well in most of the spots. The big challenge is trying to come back in that second match after a big win. As a coach, you always guard against a drop off that next match and our next match was an hour and a half away, so we were really pleased with how we played."

WKU is 2-4 all-time against IUPUI, with the first match taking place in 2001. The Lady Toppers won the first meeting, 5-2 in Clarksville, Tenn. The sides would go on to face off four more times in the next five years, with the Jaguars winning all four matches. In 2020, WKU won the first dual match between the two teams since 2006, 5-2 in Indianapolis, Ind.

IUPUI had a dual match record of 1-11 in 2020 before the remainder of the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, they held a record of 2-12, with both wins coming against the DePauw Tigers.

The Jaguars have a 1-6 record after losing to Middle Tennessee on Friday afternoon by a score of 7-0. They will come to The Hill for their third match in three days after playing at Belmont on Saturday evening.

WKU has started its season 3-0 in dual matches with a win at Bellarmine on January 17 and both wins from last weekend's doubleheader. The Lady Toppers were scheduled for a home match against Austin Peay on Saturday, February 5, but it has been moved to Friday, March 4.
