About the Lady Toppers
- The Lady Toppers had an exhibition game against Lindsey Wilson to unofficially start the season on Nov. 1. WKU earned an 84-61 win against the Blue Raiders. Freshman Acacia Hayes was the leading scorer for WKU with 22 points and sophomore Macey Blevins added 19.
- WKU is 35-14 all-time in season openers in the modern era of Lady Topper Basketball (since the 1973-74 season). The Lady Toppers are also 39-10 in home openers all-time during that same time.
- WKU returns four starters and several key pieces for the 2022-23 season. The Lady Toppers features five juniors in Hope Sivori, Aaliyah Pitts, Teresa Faustino, Odeth Betancourt and Jordan Smith. Alexis Mead, Mya Meredith, Jaylin Foster, Macey Blevins and Gabby McBride return for sophomore seasons on The Hill. WKU welcomed three freshmen in Acacia Hayes, Karris Allen and Josie Gilvin for the season.
- The Lady Toppers took a foreign tour of Italy in August, playing three games against two all-star teams and the Bosnian National Team. While in Italy, WKU student-athletes, staff and family were able to tour Rome, Florence and Venice.
- Greg Collins is in his fifth season as head coach at WKU. An emphasis Collins has put on his teams is 3-point shooting. In 2021-22, the Lady Toppers made 225 threes on the season which is the second most by a WKU team in program history. In fact, four of the top five marks in the record book belong to a team during Collins' tenure at WKU including his days as an assistant coach and associate head coach. The Lady Toppers also tied the school record for most 3-pointers made in a game twice last season, connecting on 14 threes against North Carolina A&T and Middle Tennessee.
- Last season, WKU leaned heavily on a core of freshmen. Those rookies scored 52.3 percent of the team's points for the year and pulled down 45.6 percent of the squad's rebounds. Mya Meredith earned Conference USA Freshman of the Year honors at the end of the season, despite missing the final eight games of the season due to a knee injury. Alexis Mead and Meredith were named to the C-USA All-Freshmen Team as well.
