About the Lady Toppers
- The Lady Toppers earned their first win of the 2022-23 season on Monday, Nov. 21 with a 91-55 victory against Miami. The game started out back-and-forth, but WKU came alive in the second quarter to take a 42-26 lead at halftime. It was the largest win margin for WKU against a Division I opponent since the 2018-19 season.
- Aaliyah Pitts was the leading scorer for WKU with 19 points. In all, six WKU players scored in double figures, including Macey Blevins (14), Josie Gilvin (12), Jaylin Foster (11), Acacia Hayes (10) and Teresa Faustino (10). Foster notched her second double-double of the season with 10 rebounds to go with her 11 points.
- Foster is averaging 4.3 offensive rebound through the first three games of the season, a mark that ranks first in Conference USA and 24th in the country. Her two double-doubles also rank first in the league and 27th in the nation. Her 3.33 steals per game are second in the conference and 29th nationally.
- The team is averaging 12.7 steals per game which is second the C-USA and 31st in the nation. WKU is forcing teams into 24.0 turnovers per game which is also the second highest average in the league and the 25th highest in the country.
- Greg Collins is in his fifth season as head coach at WKU. An emphasis Collins has put on his teams is 3-point shooting. In 2021-22, the Lady Toppers made 225 threes on the season which is the second most by a WKU team in program history. In fact, four of the top five marks in the record book belong to a team during Collins' tenure at WKU including his days as an assistant coach and associate head coach. The Lady Toppers also tied the school record for most 3-pointers made in a game twice last season, connecting on 14 threes against North Carolina A&T and Middle Tennessee.
- Last season, WKU leaned heavily on a core of freshmen. Those rookies scored 52.3 percent of the team's points for the year and pulled down 45.6 percent of the squad's rebounds. Mya Meredith earned Conference USA Freshman of the Year honors at the end of the season, despite missing the final eight games of the season due to a knee injury. Alexis Mead and Meredith were named to the C-USA All-Freshmen Team as well.
