CINCINNATI, Ohio — WKU Tennis begins its fall season at the UC/Pam Whitehead Invitational this weekend. The Lady Toppers will compete on Friday, September 17 and Saturday, September 18 at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center on the Bearcats' campus.
The UC/Pam Whitehead Invitational will pin WKU against players from host Cincinnati, Miami (Ohio) and Bowling Green.
WKU is 2-1 all-time against Cincinnati in dual match competition. Last season on April 18, the Bearcats edged the Lady Toppers by a score of 4-3 at Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center. WKU is 0-3 all-time against Miami (Ohio), most recently dropping matches in both 2019 and 2020. Meanwhile, the Lady Toppers and Bowling Green have never played head-to-head in spring competition.
The UC/Pam Whitehead Invitational schedule, with approximate times, will be as follows:
Day 1 – Friday, September 17:
12 p.m. – Doubles (WKU vs. BGSU, UC vs. MIA)
1 p.m. – Doubles (WKU vs. UC, BGSU vs. MIA)
2:30 p.m. – Singles (WKU vs. MIA, UC vs. BGSU)
Day 2 – Friday, September 18:
10 a.m. – Doubles (WKU vs. MIA, UC vs. BGSU)
11 a.m. – Doubles (WKU vs. BGSU, UC vs. MIA)
2:30 p.m. – Singles (WKU vs. UC, BGSU vs. MIA)
This will be the first of three fall tournaments for WKU over the next month, a drastic increase from this past fall, when the Lady Toppers only competed once – at the MTSU Tournament – due to the schedule being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
"I wanted a challenge from the fall schedule, I really wanted to go up against some good teams," head coach Greg Davis said in an interview this summer. "And all three of these tournaments are new ones that we have never played before."
WKU will also play in the Butler Invitational in Indianapolis from October 1-3, as well as the Samford Invitational in Birmingham from October 8-10.
