Head Coach Davis Interview
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — After winning a pair of matches last week, WKU Tennis heads to Middle Tennessee on Saturday, April 3 to face off against a Conference USA rival. Play at the Adams Tennis Complex will begin at 2 p.m. and live stats will be available at THIS LINK.
The Lady Toppers now stand at 4-11 this season after a 6-1 victory at Butler on Friday, March 26 and a 7-0 sweep vs. UT Martin on Monday, March 29.
"I think we're going in that direction of playing our best tennis of the year," head coach Greg Davis said. "We've seen in our wins against Butler, UT Martin and Southern Miss how well this team can play.
"But we've kind of had that Jekyll–Hyde where we play at a tremendous level and then struggle in the next match backing that up, so we have to focus on that as we're getting ready to face a really tough MTSU team."
The Blue Raiders own an 8-9 overall record this season. Most recently, MTSU defeated Davidson by a score of 6-1 on the road on Sunday, March 28. Before hosting WKU on Saturday, the Blue Raiders travel to Alabama A&M on Friday, April 2 for a 2 p.m. match.
Against common C-USA opponents, the Lady Toppers and MTSU both lost to FIU. In a round-robin weekend in Murfreesboro from March 5-7, WKU and the Blue Raiders did not face each other, but the Lady Toppers defeated Southern Miss and lost to LA Tech, while MTSU lost to Southern Miss and defeated LA Tech.
Both teams' top singles players by record play at the No. 2 spot, with WKU's Laura Bernardos boasting a 9-6 overall record and the Blue Raiders' Lidia Burrows holding a 10-6 mark.
MTSU holds a 26-12 advantage in the all-time head-to-head series, which dates all the way back to 1975. WKU's most recent win against the Blue Raiders came on February 4, 2017, when the Lady Toppers won by a score of 5-0.
