BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU Tennis will get its first Conference USA challenges of the season this weekend, as the Lady Toppers head down to Murfreesboro, Tenn., for neutral site matches against LA Tech and Southern Miss. WKU will face the Lady Techsters on Friday, March 5 at 1 p.m. and then take on the Golden Eagles on Saturday, March 6 at 11 a.m.
The Lady Toppers – who have a 1-6 record so far this spring – last faced LA Tech in the 2018 C-USA Tournament and came away with a 4-0 win. Meanwhile, WKU and Southern Miss have never faced each other in women's tennis.
The Lady Techsters sit at 4-4 this spring after back-to-back losses to Louisiana-Monroe and Arkansas State. The Golden Eagles boast a 3-1 mark with three straight wins over Florida A&M, West Alabama and South Alabama.
WKU's most recent match was a 6-1 loss to Ball State on Sunday, February 28. Cora-Lynn von Dungern claimed the lone singles win of the day, defeating her opponent 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 in a third-set tiebreaker at the No. 1 position.
Although the Lady Toppers lost the opening doubles point to the Cardinals, their No. 3 pair of Tristen Bryant-Otake and Lauren Joch took their match by a score of 7-5.
"We competed very well in doubles and just came up short, then we unfortunately couldn't switch the momentum once Ball State won five of the first sets in singles," head coach Greg Davis said at the time. "The 15-day layoff certainly wasn't a help today and then you're playing against a veteran team that had four matches in the last week."
Middle Tennessee will host the matches at the Adams Tennis Complex. The Blue Raiders will play LA Tech on Saturday and Southern Miss on Sunday.
