CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Lady Topper Golf wrapped up play at the Chattanooga Classic on Tuesday afternoon. WKU finished sixth in the 13-team field, shooting 19-over 307 as a team in the final round.
"Today was not the way we wanted to end our schedule of regular season tournaments, but I'm still proud of the way the team fought and finished strong," said head coach Adam Gary on the day. "We were a bit all over the place throughout the tournament, but Mary (Joiner) and Megan (Clarke) showed some good consistency and leadership during the event. We can always count on them to step up and their strong performances throughout this season prove that."
Graduate senior Mary Joiner was the top finisher for the Lady Toppers as she tied for eighth. The Franklin, Ky., native shot 5-over 77 in the final round at the par-72, 6,158-yard Black Creek Club. Joiner is now eight for nine on the year in top 20 finishes.
Senior captain Megan Clarke is a perfect nine for nine in top-25 finishes after tying for 15th at the Classic, just two shots behind Joiner at 12-over 228. She carded the Lady Toppers' lowest score of the day at 2-over 74 to climb 12 spots on the leaderboard.
Rounding out the Lady Topper scoring on Tuesday were freshman Rachel Rich and sophomore Sarah Arnold. Rich turned in a 5-over 77 to finish t-26th at the tournament, closing the event with a birdie on No. 18. Arnold tied for 42nd after shooting a final round, 7-over 79, also ending with a birdie.
Senior Olivia Reed shot 12-over 84 and tied for 49th. Redshirt senior Teri Doss competed as an individual in the Classic, carding a 7-over 79 on the day. She tied for 33rd overall and was the second-highest individual finisher.
The Lady Toppers will finish regular season play with a dual match against Marshall at home on Monday. The match will be played at Indian Hills Country Club. Tee times will be announced later this week.
"We'd love to see the community out at the match on Monday," said Gary on the season-closing event. "Our seniors have given a lot to the program over the last four years or so, and we'd love to send them out to conference on a high note at home."
